Closed yesterday (19), yellow-green participation in ProWein exceeded expectations and resulted in more than 500 business contacts
The more than 500 attendances made by the 11 Brazilian wineries with buyers from 20 countries at the Wines of Brasil collective stand during the three days of ProWein – closed yesterday (19) – in Düsseldorf, Germany, can result in US $ 2 million in business in the next 12 months. The projection is about 25% higher than the previous edition, held in 2018. The Brazilian presence at the main wine fair in the world was made possible by the Brazilian Wine Institute (Ibravin) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), with the support of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Tourism of Rio Grande do Sul (Sedetur/RS).
In the Wines of Brasil’s 15th consecutive participation in the event, the country presented the new sectoral positioning, “A Sparkling New World”, betting on the exclusive promotion of green-yellow bubbles. This year, Aurora, Bueno Wines, Casa Perini, Casa Valduga, Garibaldi, Lidio Carraro, Miolo, Peterlongo, Pizzato, Salton and Zanlorenzi wineries were present.
Diego Bertolini, Ibravi’s Promotion manager, believes that in addition to assisting in business prospecting, the fair validated the new sectoral strategy, which could be seen in the greater demand of importers in Europe, Asia and the Americas for the Brazilian bubbles. The interest was also observed with the presence of two Master of Wine and the main international specialized magazines, who were seeking more information about the sector and wanting to know more labels.
“We are very confident that in the mid-term we will consolidate Brazil as a reference in the beverage’s production in the Southern Hemisphere along with the final consumer. At the moment, efforts are focused on the trade, where in addition to quality, the beverage’s cost-benefit will attract the importers of the project’s target countries,” explains Bertolini, referring to the United States, the United Kingdom and China.
According to the participating wineries, what attracted most visitors to the stand was the quality and diversity of styles of national sparkling wines, ranging from Moscatel to Nature, as well as the different methods of elaboration, from Asti, through Charmat to the Champenoise.
“It was another very important year with a fantastic collective work. We managed to close some deals, prospect several others. It is notorious that with each passing year Brazil is more recognized. People who do not know our products, when they taste it, are impressed. We are on the right track to be known worldwide,” said Cleverson Koltz, managing director of a wine cooperative in Bento Gonçalves.
Anderson Tirloni, export manager of a company from Vale dos Vinhedos that has participated in the event since the first edition, agrees with Koltz: “Every year we are more seen and remembered. We realize that Brazilian sparkling wine is attracting a lot of interest of European, Asian and American consumers. Brazil has a bright future, and the sparkling wine will also pull the growth of other wine products. We made many contacts with good expectations of closing deals. In all the years we participated, this was one of the busiest fairs we’ve ever been to.”
Participating for the first time in ProWein, Salomão Szafir, export director of a winery in Campanha Gaúcha, positively evaluated the company’s debut at the event: “The fair was spectacular. There were a lot of people interested, showing that Brazil has grown a lot in concept.”
In addition to buyers from the project’s target countries – the United States, the United Kingdom and China – the Wines of Brasil collective stand received visitors from Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
This Wednesday (20), after participating in ProWein, a group of 12 people, from five Brazilian wineries, traveled to a technical mission in Italy, in Franciacorta region. Until Saturday (23), members of Wines of Brazil and companies Aurora, Aurora, Casa Perini, Casa Valduga, Pizzato and Salton will visit wineries and touristic enterprises. The objective is to improve the preparation methods of sparkling wines by the Champenoise method and to increase the knowledge of the local market.
